A health advisory has been issued by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) alerting consumers of the possible risks associated with taking Crestor®. The FDA approved Crestor® in 2003 as a cholesterol lowering drug.  Crestor® is a type of statin, a class of drugs used to treat hyperlipidemia, specifically elevated cholesterol and triglycerides.  Crestor® is meant to be used together with lifestyle changes (diet, weight loss and exercise) to reduce the amount of “bad” cholesterol (LDL) and triglycerides in the blood stream.  It also works to raise the “good” cholesterol (HDL).  Unfortunately, Crestor® has now been shown to have significant risk potential.  Crestor® Joint Pain may be an indicator you are at risk.   At this time, there has been no Crestor® recall. Although there has been no recall but you believe you may be experiencing Crestor® Joint Pain or have been otherwise injured, you may be entitled to compensation.

Founded in 1971, Public Citizen an advocacy group, not associated the the FDA or any drug manufacturer, has been assessing the quality and efficacy of drugs and devices on behalf of consumers since their inception. This non-profit public interest group uses the law, petitions and letters to monitor the FDA and persuade the agency into action.  Their concern about the safety of Crestor® began early on. They believe that Crestor® side effects could prove incapacitating or even deadly and warrant a Crestor® recall.  One of the side effects of Crestor® is Rhabdomyolysis. The disease process, Rhabdomyolysis is potentially lethal and occurs when a large number of skeletal muscle cells die. The death of the skeletal muscle cells results in the release of a massive amount of muscle protein into the bloodstream. This flood of muscle protein in the blood leads to the deadliest of Crestor® side effects. The muscle protein becomes trapped in the kidneys, affecting the filtering process of the kidneys leading to possible, if not probable, kidney failure. Other related side effects include cardiac arrest resulting from potassium released from the damaged muscle cells.

In 1998 the Journal of America Medical Association (JAMA) sited medication side effects as the fourth leading cause of death in the United States annually. The side effects of taking Crestor® are significant, possibly life altering, potentially lethal and include: cardiomyopathy, myopathy, necrotizing myopathy, heart attack, type 2 diabetes, sudden cardiac death, The risks are overwhelming and have led to an outcry and demand for a Crestor® recall, by the public interest group, Public Citizen. Crestor® has not been recalled and it is not known at this time if a recall will be made.

Crestor® Joint Pain may be an indicator that you have a serious condition. If you believe you are experiencing Crestor® Joint Pain, or another side effect as a result of taking Crestor®, now is the time to establish your rights.
